THE IRON CROWN TRAIL RUN

The Iron Crown Trail Run in Magoebaskloof is an annual event organised by Rotary Haenertsburg, attracting runners from all over the country and is known for its challenging but scenic route. The Iron Crown Trail Run has a rich history that dates back to 2010 when the first race was held to showcase the natural beauty of the Magoebaskloof area and to provide a challenging trail running experience for participants. Since its inception, it has grown in popularity to become one of the most highly-anticipated trail running events in South Africa.

The race is named after the Iron Crown, the highest peak in Limpopo, a distinctive landmark for the runners. The route winds through some of the most scenic areas of the Magoebaskloof Mountains, including indigenous forests, waterfalls, and mountain streams. The Iron Crown Trail Run is popular among trail runners because of its challenging terrain and stunning scenery. The route includes steep climbs and descents, technical sections, and river crossings, which provide a true test of a runner's skills and endurance.

The 2023 Iron Crown Trail Run is scheduled to take place on the 8th of July. The race, which starts and finishes in the heart of Haenertsburg, ‘follows village streets, dirt roads, firebreaks and single-track footpaths’ up to the summit with spectacular views. The 22km race will climb 687m from 1439m to 2126m, the highest point in Limpopo. The 10km route is less strenuous and only reaches an elevation of 1600m, while the 5km fun run is perfect for the less energetic. Runners can expect a challenging but rewarding experience, as they navigate through the beautiful and rugged terrain of the Magoebaskloof Mountains.

You could enjoy this unique and challenging trail running event that offers runners the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Magoebaskloof Mountains in a meaningful way. Take a look at www.rotaryhaenertsburg.co.za for more information.
