GLASS ART - A DANCE OF LIGHT AND COLOUR

Elspeth and Ralph Humphreys have lived on Tupelo Honey Farm in the magical mountains of Magoebaskloof for over 25 years. They have loved every minute of it, and it shows in the beautiful venues they share with people who appreciate this wonderful valley and all it has to offer. With views out over fields of herbs, avocado orchards and forests down towards Tzaneen, Elspeth has a daily dose of inspiration for the soul. So it is not surprising that her beautiful mirrors are framed with glass filled with flowers and butterflies from the farm. Her Glass Art Studio has quirky glass birds, decorative dragonflies and unique glass platters. She also takes orders for custom-made stained glass windows or panels which cast a glorious kaleidoscope of light in an otherwise ordinary room.

The romantic venue-for-two, Olivia’s Secret has tasteful decor with beautiful glass panels made by Elspeth, while in the Herb Cottage, her original design makes a standard bathroom window into a work of art. Glass is a volatile material but, once mastered, it provides the artist with a medium with characteristics such as reflection, clarity, magnification and transparency. The zen-like process of creation can produce anything from ethereal vessels to practical tableware but each will be a one-of-a-kind piece capturing a unique dance of light and colour.
