STYLE AND SERENITY AT VIEWPOINT ESTATE

Nestled on the edge of the hills overlooking Haenertsburg between Polokwane and Tzaneen, lies Viewpoint Estate, a unique combination of seven self-catering Log Cabins and a stylish Bed & Breakfast Guest House set on a large, manicured property amongst mature flowering cherries and azaleas with mesmerizing views of Haenertsburg village, the Iron Crown Mountain and the Drakensberg range beyond.

Viewpoint Estate is the heart-space of owner Moya Blight who has infused her sense of style and creative flair into every aspect. The property was originally owned by the Schoeman family and Moya grew up playing in their garden. Years later, in 2003, she acquired the property and, recalling all her fond childhood memories, wanted to create a space where people could enjoy the magical gardens and cosy cabins just as she did. Moya is a dynamic woman who manages to juggle various businesses and projects with apparent ease, and renovating the cabins and guest house was a labour of love, drawing inspiration from her background as an interior decorator. In 2018, extensive renovations to the cabins began and finally, in 2022, the historic main house thought to be 120 years old, was renovated for the second time into a homely guest house.

The Viewpoint Guest House has six light, airy bedrooms whose stylish open-plan bathrooms have a shower, a free standing bath, or both. The rooms each have their own unique flair and character with special pieces collected over time and every one leads off to a little courtyard or garden space where you can breathe in the fresh mountain air - a tranquil retreat from the outside world. The shared lounge space in the guest house is dramatic and delightful, with tasteful, bespoke furniture and art. Glass doors lead you onto the veranda where you can spend lazy afternoons or simply soak up the views. Add to that the delicious, healthy breakfast made with love and care using local organic produce and the proximity to Haenertsburg and you have an unforgettable experience.

Tucked into the lovely gardens at the top end of the property, are the seven refurbished self-catering log cabins that offer a sense of country-living with all the modern luxuries you need for a comfortable stay, each with its own braai area in the garden. Of the seven cabins there are two four-sleeper units ideal for a small family and five two-sleepers. Each cabin has personal touches with a sophisticated blend of old and new décor pieces collected on Moya’s travels and the boho-chic ambiance gives the feeling of a home away from home. Whether you are enjoying a romantic sundowner on the balcony or snuggling up next to the indoor fireplace, the cabins create a perfect setting for your mountain escape.

Moya feels that the mystical mountain she grew up in is still one of the ‘best kept secrets’ in South Africa so she is passionate about sharing this beautiful area with guests and showcasing the local talent. Moya would love to see Magoebaskloof and Haenertsburg continue to grow and develop into a tourist destination attracting visitors from around the world.

Viewpoint Estate is an ideal base from which to explore the many activities on offer in the area from the adventure sports at Magoebaskloof Adventures to the Craft Brewery and Organic Cheese Farm on Cheerio Road or the eclectic variety of restaurants and shops along Haenertsburg’s main street. Further afield, you can get your nature-fix at Debengeni Waterfalls or stop off at the Old Packhouse Distillery for a gin-tasting. If you are travelling along Route 71 to the Kruger National Park, Viewpoint Estate is a great stopover to get you into holiday mode. Whatever you feel like doing this summer, let Limpopo whisper sweet nothings in your ear... fall in love with the most beautiful province in the country.
