When the first blush of blossoms hits the slopes of Magoebaskloof and the crisp mountain air starts to soften, you know ‘The Mountain’ is waking up for a season of colour, music and community fun. From September through to November, Magoebaskloof and Haenertsburg burst into a lively calendar of events that are as varied as the scenery itself. Whether you’re here for the flowers, the festivals, or a bit of friendly competition, there is something to tempt you into the hills.
September is where the magic truly unfolds. All month long and into early October, Cheerio Gardens celebrates spring in a riot of azaleas, cherry blossoms, and crabapple blooms. Stroll the winding paths under a canopy of colour and breathe in that unmistakable fresh-mountain scent.

On 20 September, the Munnik Meerkat Mountain Bike Race offers riders sweeping views and a chance to push their limits. Mark the calendar for 27 and 28 September when the village buzzes with the Haenertsburg Spring Festival around the Pennefather Complex and the Homegrown Howzit Haenertsburg Market on the Village Green. Down the road at Stanford Lake, Blueberry Café’s Spring Festival, will offer festive food, drinks and live music as well as a series of farm runs for all fitness levels.

October keeps the good times rolling starting with the Valley Vibes Silent Disco at Krabbefontein Café on 4 October, where you can dance under the stars with headphones on and the mountains as your backdrop. Mid-month, flowers take centre stage again with La Chanson des Fleurs at Stanford Lake College - a floral show fundraiser as beautiful as its name. (18 October)

As the days linger longer, November sneaks in with a little mischief. On the 1st, the Iron Crown Pub throws its annual Halloween Party, where costumes range from spooky to spectacular. Then, on the 22nd, the Magoebaskloof Plunge sets off from Haenertsburg - a Comrades qualifier that offers an exhilarating race through one of South Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes.

From the first blossoms of Spring to the swoop towards Summer, this corner of Limpopo proves once again that it knows how to throw a good party. Book your stay and start the countdown - the mountains are calling.
