Celebrate Spring in Magoebaskloof

Gather up the kids, give mom a chance to put her lipstick on, lock up the dogs, get granny in the car and make your way to the mountains from 22 – 30 September to celebrate spring. From middle August the area is transformed as crab apple trees and azaleas start pushing out their colourful blooms.
This is also the time when the Magoebaskloof Spring Festival takes place at Magoebaskloof Hotel. For 34 years the Festival has delighted all visitors with its wonderful array of hand crafted delights. As an NPO, it takes great pride in having given craftsmen a platform to sell their lovingly created products.
This year there is again an exciting array of goodies to admire and take home with you. Old favourites such as baskets in all shapes and sizes from Siloe School for the Blind; HiKurile’s beautiful bags and table sets; Annelle Murray’s unique range of jewellery from a master craftsman; Wrought iron work; beads galore from Patricia, Wilbur and Dennis; artists Pieter and Renier’s paintings; Johann and Tinus’s beautiful pottery; Liz’s collection of plants from azaleas to indigenous flowers to flowering cherry saplings and not forgetting Toban’s handcrafted knives. The list is endless. Nor are the kids forgotten – appealing wooden and educational toys and squashy dolls will all entertain the younger ones.
Foodies can enjoy Magriet’s delicious cakes and rusks, Wegraakbosch’s interesting organic cheeses and their famous chorizo sausage, Hendrik’s biltong, a garlic stall with amazing garlic products; Mankwana’s jams, Asnath’s pickles. An array of tasty treats!
Spend time to browse, find that exciting Xmas present, indulge yourself or just enjoy the visit. And after your shopping spree, relax on the hotel’s patio with its wonderful view, a coffee or local Zwakala artisanal beer at hand.
Cheerio Gardens, Kuhestan Organic Farm and Sequoia Garden Retreat will be dressed for spring with masses of azaleas in shades of mauve, pink and white, flowering cherry blossoms and other spring flowers. These gardens are famous for their beauty and there are lovely winding pathways on Cheerio, an azalea maze on Kuhestan and interesting little corners at Sequoia. Make time to go.
